Aish Al-Ghurab "Mushroom Growth"

Aish Al-Ghurab (Mushroom Growth) is a visual exploration of irregular migration and the fragile hopes that drive people to risk their lives in search of a different future. Inspired by the rapid and unpredictable growth of mushrooms, the exhibition reflects on how dreams of departure emerge and spread within communities facing economic hardship, instability, and limited opportunities.

Through a series of symbolic artworks, the exhibition traces the emotional journey of migration—from the moment hope takes root, through the uncertainty of the sea crossing, to the unknown reality that lies beyond arrival. Boats, ropes, children, and personal symbols appear throughout the works as metaphors for aspiration, vulnerability, loss, and resilience.

The sea occupies a central presence within the exhibition. It is portrayed not only as a geographical passage but also as a psychological space suspended between life and death, hope and despair, belonging and exile. The works challenge viewers to confront the human stories often hidden behind statistics and headlines, revealing migration as a deeply personal experience shaped by courage, necessity, and sacrifice.

Rather than focusing solely on borders or destinations, Aish Al Ghurab examines the conditions that give rise to migration itself. It invites reflection on the value of human life, the persistence of hope in the face of uncertainty, and the profound consequences of seeking a future elsewhere.
