This series of artworks is inspired by my research paper, *Meeting Residential Needs*, which critiques conventional approaches to housing planning and design in Libya.
The project questions the understanding of housing as merely a commodity or a service, arguing instead that housing is a complex social, cultural, and economic entity shaped by the changing needs and lifestyles of its residents. As societies evolve, housing environments must be capable of adapting to new habits, aspirations, and patterns of living.
Through visual exploration, the series reflects on the gap between institutional housing policies and the lived experiences of residents. It highlights the consequences of standardized, quantitative approaches that overlook human diversity and local context, often resulting in a sense of alienation between people and their built environment.
Particularly within Libya's post-war context, the works advocate for a participatory approach to reconstruction, where residents become active contributors to the shaping of their homes and communities. The project ultimately calls for a rethinking of housing not as a finished product, but as an evolving process that responds to human needs, cultural identity, and the unique character of place.
